Open-Source Technologies in Real-time Data Analytics

Open-Source Technologies in Real-time Data Analytics

This course will equip students with knowledge about some of the most relevant open-source tools and technologies designed for data ingestion, storage, analytics and visualization. The knowledge of these tools and technologies is essential for candidates who intend to continue their work in applied data science either as data engineers in the private sector or data scientists working in academia or other research-oriented organizations.

Due to the limited length of the course, it is envisaged that at least the following platforms, technologies and tools will be discussed:

  • Data ingestion and storage: Kafka, Cassandra, InfluxDB and HBase;
  • Big data analytics: MapReduce (for historical reasons), Spark and ElasticSearch;
  • Stream analytics: Spark Streaming, Storm and Flink;
  • Graph analytics: GraphX;
  • Visualization: Grafana, Kibana;
